Moving house? Why you should change the locks

Moving day already has enough on the list, but changing the locks is one item worth prioritising over almost everything else.

You don't know how many keys exist

Previous owners, tenants, family members, cleaners, dog walkers, tradespeople — over the life of a property, key copies tend to accumulate in ways nobody keeps track of. A new set of locks resets that completely.

Estate agents and previous owners aren't always thorough

Even with the best intentions, it's common for a spare key or two to be forgotten about, left with a neighbour, or simply never mentioned during the handover.

It's cheaper than you'd think

Swapping euro cylinders on a UPVC or composite door is usually a quick, affordable job, especially compared with the cost and stress of dealing with unauthorised entry later.

Good timing to upgrade, not just replace

Since you're changing the locks anyway, it's a natural moment to upgrade to anti-snap cylinders or a BS3621 mortice deadlock if the property doesn't already have them.

If moving day is coming up, get the locks booked in for that morning — it's one less thing to think about once the boxes are in.
